Visiting Assistant Professor in Neuroscience
The Department of Neuroscience at Thiel College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Neuroscience for the fall 2018 semester. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong interest in developing underrepresented and first-generation students from diverse backgrounds. This position will provide the successful candidate with quality teaching experience and mentoring in preparation for transition to an academic career. Additionally, dedicated time to develop an independent research program will be included with the appointment.
Teaching responsibilities may include contribution to team-taught Neuroscience Methods and an entry-level neuroscience course taken by non-majors; Introduction to Neuroscience; and upper-level electives/seminars in the candidate’s area of specialization. Depending on the candidate’s interest and background, there may also be opportunities to contribute to coursework in our Exercise Science program and first-year seminar. While all candidates will be considered, those with expertise in electrophysiology, development, or motor physiology are of particular interest.
At the time of appointment, successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field and have an interest in joining an undergraduate department where quality teaching and student development is highly valued. Travel to one conference per year is guaranteed, and housing at College-owned properties may be available depending on the individual’s needs. Additionally, Thiel has a long-standing relationship with Greenville Neuromodulation Center (GNC), a non-profit affiliate of FHC Inc. specializing in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and other neuromodulation techniques. The staff of GNC maintain an active research lab on Thiel’s campus and a patient clinic in downtown Greenville.
