Call for Papers: Animal Models as Empirical Foundations for Practice 

Special Issue of Translational Issues in Psychological Science (TPS)

We are soliciting submissions for consideration for inclusion in a special issue titled “Animal Models as Empirical Foundations for Practice” in the innovative journal titledTranslational Issues in Psychological Science, co-sponsored by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS).   The special issue “Animal Models as Empirical Foundations for Practice” is scheduled to appear in early 2019.  For this issue, the Editors will consider manuscripts across the broad spectrum of empirical researches with animals that offer or may have the potential to offer information that could inform psychological practice, health practices, human performance, and/or advance the human condition. To foster the translational research aim, each manuscript must describe how its research findings, or the body of research that is described, may be applied to one or more sectors of psychology.  Also considered will be thoughtful non-empirical articles on the challenges for such research (e.g., behavioral phenotyping).

                  Translational Issues in Psychological Science (TPS) offers a special opportunity for researchers using animals to advance psychological science because of its unique scope of readership of over 30,000 subscribers, consisting of APAGS and APA members, but also institutions and individuals outside of the association. It is included in PsycARTICLES® and PsycINFO®, the most used psychological databases; members from over 3,300 institutions-a potential 60 million viewers-have the chance to find and read each article published in TPS.

The readership is generally early career psychologists and teachers of psychology. In appealing to this audience, manuscripts submitted toTPS should be co-authored by at least one psychologist in training (graduate student, postdoctoral fellow)—often but not necessarily with a senior scientist. The articles should be written concisely for a broad audience, and focus on the practical implications of the research presented in the manuscript.
